Quake II did what no one expected, it surpassed everyone's expectations, and became more popular then the original ever was. Mods and maps flew out of every corner on earth, and quickly added countless hours of gameplay for anyone that had an internet connection. Quake II also boosted online gaming to another level, people were playing online more than ever.
I remember getting my copy the day it came out. I played it all day, and all night. I fell asleep at 7am, and woke up an hour later and kept playing. I was addicted from day one. I lost more sleep then I ever had in my life, and I had great pleasure blowing people up with rocket launchers when I should have been studying.

Absolutely Genius

The One And Only

The original bad boy of 3D shooters. Who can deny one of the best games ever made? Quake was revolutionary, for the time it came out. You can laugh at the shoddy graphics today, but nobody had seen pixels look like that before Quake, it set a stanard for the industry, and led as an example for all others to follow.
Besides the graphics, the gameplay was highly addictive. I can remember playing for 12 hours straight on some days. Quake was also one of the first games that introduced me to online gaming. The countless mods and maps that were created for Quake earn it another medal on top of already being a kick ass game.

Underrated. Period.

Giants came out at the wrong time, to the wrong audience, with the wrong expectations. The few of us that actually saw the game for what it was, were thrilled. In a time of mindless FPS games and boring RPGs, Giants brought back what games started out trying to bring us... entertainment.
The world inside Giants is beautifully designed (for the time it was made), the characters are all unique and tie seamlessly with the plot. One underrated aspect of Giants was it's brilliant humor. I suppose the days of laughing hysterically at half naked sea reapers and overgrown giants are over.
